Muze Women is the result of a 14-year love affair with cycling, a desire to see more women feel that love, and a slightly rebellious calling to mess with conventions.
It was created for the female cyclist that wants:
A flattering fit, regardless of her size or shape
Designs that sweat the girl stuff. Because ponytails, periods and chafing bra crops shouldn't get in the way of a great ride
Lycra that’s kinder to the planet
More than that, Muze was created to get more women into cycling and drive greater gender balance across the sport. For us, that means making cycling more inclusive, comfortable and exciting for all women at all levels – starting with our clothes.
It means creating a community with regular rides, training and connection. Sharing cycling tips and women’s stories that are inspiring and relatable whether you’re a size 6, 16 pro or social roller. Covering female cycling news, advocating for change and partnering with others on a similar mission.
But first, the cycling kit. Because every woman deserves to ride in gear that feels good, looks great and won’t let her down.
If you’ve ever had to shop in the kids’ section up top and the curvy section down below, you’ll know how inconsistent sizing is across female fashion. And cycling’s no different.
Most women end up ping-ponging between sizes, brands and patterns in the search for that elusive ‘perfect fit’. Only to end up looking like a papier mâché art project. You deserve better.
So, we worked hard to give you better. We hired an anthropometric expert (that’s professor-speak for someone that studies the human body) to do our own study.
We gathered a large group of women of different shapes and sizes, and studied them from head to toe and boob to butt. We looked at patterns, panelling, cuts, comfort, seams, fabrics, endurance and weather patterns. (Tune in for our next forecast at Sunrise). And how these fit, flattered and performed under different conditions.
We also have a really cool sizing tool so you don’t need to be a pattern maker to get the right fit.
It that asks you lots of simple questions about your usual sizing and fit preferences without having to do too much with a tape measure…because we all know what a pain that is!
Why does any of this matter?
Because you shouldn’t have to scour the internet, mix ‘n’ match or shop the kids’ section for the perfect fit.
If you’ve cycled for some time, it’s likely you’ve learnt to put up with a bunch of stuff. Like having to peel off every layer just to pee. Or dealing with a ponytail that doesn’t fit under your headband or helmet. Or cycling 150km in a sports bra that chafes against your heart rate monitor with every. sweaty. pedal.
While we admire your resilience, that’s not a badge of honour you should wear.
So, we zeroed in on the little design details that would make a big difference to women. Now there’s a cycling headband and cycling cap made just for ponytails, a cycling jersey that doesn’t reveal your midriff to the world, and cycling bib shorts that don't make your legs look like pork sausages.
It’s our way of getting more women to get out there and enjoy the damn ride.
Lycra has a bad rap when it comes to sustainable fashion. As a cycling clothing brand, we want to change that and do the least damage we can.
As a start, we’re putting all our energy into:
- Making quality items that last
- Using fabrics and materials that have less impact on the environment, and working with partners that are focused on responsible practices
- Using biodegradable and recyclable tags and packaging
- Being honest about where we’re at, while moving towards better.
Our aim is to get the 5 R cycle - reduce, repair, reuse, repurpose and recycle - humming like a well-lubed bike chain. Take a look at our full sustainability story.
